We had a large renovation project, almost our entire basement (Floors, walls, ceilings, outlets and lights), heat pumps, new windows, installation of a new window, a bedroom, and a complete bathroom remodel. On top of taking on a large project my wife was 5 months pregnant. Though we never asked, Derick promised to have all of it done before the baby was born. I’m happy to say despite the large amount of work done, he followed through. He and his team were able to finish the job on time.

In terms of the process, Derick started by doing a walkthrough of the job with us. He took many pictures and video recordings narrating what we wanted done. We felt he listened to us, and he also gave us suggestions or built off of our own ideas in ways we hadn’t thought of. Once the walk through was done, he gave us some suggestions on what we could do prior to work to make the process smoother and faster for he and his team. Following that, I sent him a complete list of what we wanted done.
We gave him our budget and for his quote, he delivered five separate ones: Windows, Basement, Heat pumps, Bathroom, and Bedroom. These quotes were further broken down to every possible cost associated with them. No detail was left out. When his team started, we knew exactly what we were paying for down to the last dollar. When it came time to pay there was no surprise costs, it was exactly what he had quoted us.

No renovation job is without its surprises and ours had a few. Two issue that stood out; were the bathroom floor previously had been installed on thinner plywood that was not to code. We always had issues with our tile cracking and never knew why. On top of this issue, the biggest one we had, was when they replaced one of the windows in our basement, there was a large amount of rot was around the wood frame of the window and some studs beyond that. For both of these issues, Derick was quick to come up with a plan, and more importantly go over it with us thoroughly before going ahead and fixing the issue. He even took the time to show us the issues as close to the point of discovery as he could so that we would see them first hand. He was open with the extra cost, and even came ready with a breakdown quote of the additional cost to fix the issues, which we were grateful for.

Derick really loves his job, and so did the guys working for him. He not only treated every question with respect, but bubbled with enthusiasm when explaining parts of the construction process. This was a gigantic project, and a huge expense for us, so we naturally were nervous about taking the first steps to getting this done. Throughout the whole process, we had a ton of questions. Derick was very patient with us. I can’t understate how grateful I am for that. I knew any question we had, were answered promptly, by either himself or by his team.

His employees were also very helpful. Aside from answering any questions, each morning, I usually wanted to know what they planned to do for the day. They were not just informative, but almost always accomplished what they had planned. For having so much of our home renovated, there was hardly any construction debris. In fact, there was protective material placed down and they cleaned up everything at the end of each day. The interruptions to our lives were minimal. This made things very safe for us, our toddler and our pets.

With a large project like this, we took a lot of time looking over various contractors. Derick came on the recommendation of a couple of our friends, who also had an extensive renovation done. After seeing his work, we made our choice and I am happy we did. Since then, I would, and have recommended Derick to anyone looking for renovations.

We contacted Derick to renovate our house. It was a major renovation where we added a new floor to a single level bungalow and ended up remodelling the main floor too. Other contractors we contacted didn’t get back to me or thought the job was too big. Derick was up for the challenge and was eager to help. He was very professional with the way he communicated with us. Not only was he there to answer our many questions, he also helped us with various decisions along the way and made us comfortable with the choices we made. We were very lucky to be able to work with him and his crew.

Unfortunately, we had a house fire shortly after the renovations were complete. Everyone made it out safe, but the house had to be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Derick was one of the first people there when we needed help. He also agreed to help us with rebuilding everything too. He was able to get us moved back in sooner than expected. Even the insurance company we were working with said that it was one of the quickest turnaround times they have dealt with. It goes to show how much he cares about the quality he puts into his work and the people he works with.

If we ever have the need I wouldn’t hesitate to give him a call. The house turned out great despite the circumstances. I would definitely recommend his service to anyone looking to have work done.

Our first home renovation project was a complete rebuild of our kitchen and Derick was exactly what we needed to take us step by step through the process, connect us to the right people and vendors, and complete the work beautifully, on time, and on budget! We have just completed our third home renovation with We Build.
We are very pleased with work done, the quality of work, attention to detail, the team of expertise brought to the projects, and their focus on customer satisfaction. See below for more details on the type of work done. If we need to do another reno it will be with We Build.
Our latest project just completed in Feb 2025 was the most extensive involving removal of existing back porch and adding a 10*20 extension to our home including replacing a porch with a new mudroom and full bathroom with ceramic tile flooring, in-floor heating, windows, exterior lighting and stairs, vinyl siding and power panel replacement.
Our first project with Derrick was in 2016 when we upgraded our 2nd floor and attic including re-insulating the attic, upgrading wiring, replacing doors, trim and refinishing hardwood floors, new ceilings and painting.
Our other project in March 2021 included , renovation of living room with new insulation, new hardwood floors, new ceiling and painting.

As stated above we are very pleased with the work done and would recommend We Build for any home improvement projects.

I required some structural work done on a carport. Derick was great to work in in planning and set up phase, he gave transparent information as well as lots of thoughtful options in terms of how to proceed. In December 2018, the We Build team completely redesigned and rebuilt our smaller bathroom which features a walk-in shower with tile throughout. From start to finish, their efforts to keep our house clean and livable during the reno amazed us. The job was done on time and very well. We see and use the result of their work every day and it looks just like it did on Day 1. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
