I don't usually leave 1-star review but I think people in Athabasca and surrounding area need to know this.

This plumber has no integrity. His words means nothing.

I've called Mark in middle of summer to fix our plumbing problem. At first, he came to figure out what was wrong with our system and figured out what was wrong with system. He said he would need a whole day to this job and we agreed.

Little bit over 1 month passed and winter was slowly approaching and still no work was done; so, I called him about plumbing service and he said he has booked us for a whole day about 2 weeks later.

2 weeks later, he is no-show. I contacted him and he said he will come 3 days later. No-show again. I've contacted him and confronted him about this. He said if it is super urgent, he has to charge me more than double of his hourly rate. Also, he mentioned that he had none of the required material ready so he would have to charge me that more-than-double-hourly-rate for getting those items as well. He is saying all this after he had 2 months to prepare for the plumbing job and telling us that he booked us a whole day to do the job. We were not going to reward him with more-than-double hourly rate when he is the one not keeping his words. So, at the end, this plumber abandons us after keep promising us that he will do the job over the course of 2 months.

After this madness with this plumber, I did more research and asked for advices at local hardware store. I found out that there were several more plumbers in Athabasca. I will go to them next time.

Our Landlord originally hired this business to get a drain pipe blockage cleared and to quote to remove and close off an old drain pipe that was causing problems that was no longer used. He had to come back on a later date to do the quote. Had an appointment 8am on a Monday with Mark, and he didn’t get there until 9:45am. Once he did arrive he inspected the pipe of concern, and then mentioned he needed to get parts in the city. We then rebooked for him to arrive the following Saturday “first thing” to actually do the work. He called us that Saturday morning and informed us he had not picked up the parts needed for the job yet and that his possible eta was closer to 11am, then someone from his company phoned us (maybe his wife?) again before 11am and tell us he had been delayed in Edmonton and now it was going to be a 2 week wait before he could make it to us. We didn’t want to wait the two weeks so we had contacted a new plumber.
Mark Hanly owner of “The Hanlyman” is very unprofessional and not reliable at all. If you need plumbing work done phone Total Plumbing out of Westlock, they called back and got us a quote the same day.

I met Mark through a mutual acquaintance when we really needed a plumber. The local shop had a three week backlog. Mark was able to come to our house in a timely manner and fix our issue. We were extremely happy with the result. He was very professional and trustworthy. We now have a different issue and I called the Hanleyman first. I wouldn't use anyone else now.
