I started my working life as a mechanical engineer working for two different architecture/engineering firms in the Toronto area. In my time there, I was either the main or one of the main mechanical designers for approximately 40 projects in the Toronto area designing heating and cooling systems, plumbing, and fire protection systems. I also inspected the construction progress of almost all of these projects. Most of these projects were light commercial (office or retail) or restaurant renovation projects. For home (condo) renovations, this was my third project.

Overall, I recommend considering Square Footage for your next renovation project. They are the first company I have been recommending to friends since we finished.

1) My wife and I enjoyed the design process. Good options were presented to us for layout and materials and our concerns were listened to. Most important: we were told if our decisions were not the best, and what a better decision would be.
2) The work was done to a very high standard by the Square Footage construction team and all of their sub-trades. The materials used were high quality and the installation methods were chosen with durability and longevity in mind. Both Square Footage and the sub-trades told us if there was a better solution than what we were proposing, e.g., light switch locations, fixture types.
3) Finished on-time for our project. No mess was left and there were only a couple closet pulls to be install after they handed the condo back to us, which was because we selected them too late.
4) Budget and timelines were transparent and the construction schedule was detailed down to the week. This was the most transparent breakdown of construction cost I have seen. Weekly progress reports were issued to keep us up-to-date.
5) Having the design and construction from the same firm was a benefit throughout the project. Problems were solved expediently and there were no major communication errors between the design phase and construction phase of the project. This renovation, a complete gut of a condo, was one of the smoothest construction projects I have been involved with.

We have been living in our condo unit for 6 months now and have no material (real) complaints on either the design or build quality.

Over the years I have been involved in renovations both as an employee for contractors and a client. My experience with Square Footage stands out as one of the best over that time. In the initial design phase they were very receptive to our ideas and understood what we were trying to achieve in our project. Communication and advance planning were excellent and they have obviously set high expectations for courtesy and professionalism for their staff and subcontractors. When obstacles arose or changes were required I was consulted immediately. Workmanship, right down to finer detail finishes, was excellent and there were no surprises either in the work or payment schedule. In summary, I am thrilled with the finished product and I would have no hesitation in recommending Square Footage for a home renovation. As a matter of fact, we are already considering another project with them.

Since we had such a great experience with Square Footage when it came to renovating our main Bathroom (as per our review below), we hired them again to update most of our 1990s looking main floor - powder room, laundry room, kitchen, family room and dining room. It was our goal to have an island and open up our space so several walls were knocked down. We are thrilled with the results and now have a modern, spacious first floor that we are happy to host our family and friends in. People just cannot get over the transformation - and neither can we. Thank you to the team at Square Footage, especially Frankie, Laura and John for bringing a new vision to life. It is more than we could have ever hoped for!

We used Square Footage to renovate our very outdated main Bathroom. From my first inquiry call through to the completion of the task, we were nothing but totally satisfied with the service and with the end result. The job was completed a bit early, despite the COVID challenges and definitely on budget. We are really enjoying the new bathroom and look forward to working with Square Footage again when we renovate our kitchen and main floor living area. We recently completed a large main floor renovation with Square Footage and couldn’t be happier with the results. As we have never attempted a renovation of this size, it was a leap of faith. The design we chose was very different from what we thought we wanted, but we wouldn’t change a thing. Laura did a great job of making the design fit the personality of the house, as well as us. We did have some unforeseen issues come up, which I assume is inevitable, but we were satisfied with the resolution. We also suffered some COVID related supply delays but Frankie and John worked hard to provide us with options to get us up and functioning. I wouldn’t hesitate to use their services again.

Both John and Frankie were amazing in renovating our kitchen. Frankie designed the entire project but was attentive to all my suggestions and concerns. She was an active listener to all my wants and implemented them accordingly. Then John and his crew started the project on time and with strict COVID protocol in place at all times. John and Frankie’s staff and contractors we’re friendly, helpful and approachable while they at my house. At the end of the project both John and Frankie did a full walk through to address any concerns I may may have had. Thanks guys.

Right from the beginning we were impressed with the time, effort and attention to detail. Our kitchen's function has improved exponentially and the style fits our personalities.

This company should be ashamed of their work and customer service! A child could do the work better and have better communication. The work was sloppy, crooked and incomplete in appearance and when the company was notified they took no accountability and refused to repair. DO NOT USE THEM!

In response to the companies message below. I did not state in my above comment that I had used the company as I indicated with selecting no to the question "did you use this business?". They did work for a friend of mine and I saw the work in person and read all emails and conversations the company had with my friend and that and where my opinion is based. My friend spent $210,399 for renovations with this company only to be left with pocket doors that don't open properly, a crooked fireplace and incomplete finishings.

Thank you for response Square Footage. It interesting how quickly you responded to my post trying to discount my review. Yet have been dodging calls and work for my friend for weeks. So maybe instead of making your company look good on social media you could spend some time actually doing good work by responding to my friend and finishing your work which you have been PAID IN FULL for.

If you look at the remainder of the Google reviews you will note the company has only responded to people it hasn't done work for but is not acknowledging or correcting it's wrongs to the actual customers.
