Minto cuts corners — plain and simple. From the moment homes are delivered, it’s clear that their priority is profit, not quality. The finishing is rushed, materials are cheap, and issues start piling up fast. But what’s worse is how they treat the people who live in their developments after possession.

My experience at the Parkside development has been disappointing and, frankly, exhausting. Minto’s failure to manage their contractors — especially Cavanagh Construction and EXEL Contracting — has created a construction site that feels more like a dump than a residential community.

Debris is constantly left behind: water bottles, garbage, torn bags of cement and gravel, and workers’ discarded items. Despite multiple complaints, Minto continues to allow these contractors to treat the site with disregard for safety, cleanliness, or the wellbeing of residents.

The dust and airborne debris have had direct health impacts. This is no longer just an inconvenience — it’s a safety issue. Minto’s lack of responsiveness shows how little accountability they demand from the people they hire.

If you’re considering buying or renting from Minto, especially at Parkside, think twice. The pictures may look nice — but the reality is chaos, neglect, and health risks

Buyer Beware: Minto Ignores Warranty and Leaves Us with a Leaking Roof

I never imagined I’d be writing a review like this, but future homeowners need to be warned. We trusted Minto with building our home, only to be left with a leaking roof and zero accountability. The issue started not long after moving in, and despite the warranty clearly covering workmanship and roofing defects, Minto has done absolutely nothing to fix it.

We followed every step, submitted all required documents, and even had multiple professionals confirm it was a construction issue. Still, Minto continues to dodge responsibility, delay responses, and offer excuse after excuse. Their warranty means nothing when they refuse to honor it.

What’s worse is the total lack of empathy or urgency. We’re left dealing with interior water damage and a growing list of repairs — out of pocket — while Minto washes their hands of the situation.

If you’re thinking of buying a Minto home, ask yourself this: what happens when something actually goes wrong? Because in our experience, the answer is simple — they disappear.

A Troublesome Experience with Minto – Avoid Them at All Costs
Buying a new home is supposed to be an exciting and joyful milestone. With Minto, it’s been nothing short of a series of troubles. We trusted them with one of the biggest investments of our lives, expecting quality, professionalism, and reliability. Instead, we were handed a disaster—and worse, a company that refuses to take responsibility for their blatant mistakes.
The problems started immediately after we received the keys to our townhouse. One of the most shocking issues was a damaged electrical line caused by a finishing nail, which resulted in a circuit breaker literally exploding in my face. The entire line had to be replaced. The very next morning, the mechanical room was flooded because of a faulty valve. If you think those are isolated incidents, think again. Here are just a few more examples from the endless list of problems we’ve had to deal with:
• The main door had to be entirely replaced.
• A structural support beam was rotten and required reinforcement. This neglect was so severe that a structural engineer had to be brought in to sign off on the repairs.
• A window had to be removed, realigned, and resealed.
• A bathroom wall had to be opened and filled with foam due to a poorly installed fixture.
• The bathroom tap was so poorly installed that it had to be replaced entirely.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Oh, and let’s not forget the flooring issue—because that’s a real gem. Minto’s design center chose a material completely unfit for areas exposed to water and humidity—such as the main entrance, bathrooms, and areas near sinks and the kitchen. This isn’t just us complaining; the manufacturer and the warranty both confirm it’s a bad choice. But does Minto care? Of course not. They insist it’s the “correct” material, blatantly ignoring the facts and even the warranty guidelines. The result? Damage to the flooring that will only worsen over time, leaving us to deal with the fallout.
Now, let me add this little disclaimer: everything described here is based on our experience and to the best of our knowledge. Because, you know, maybe we imagined the breaker exploding in my face, the flooding mechanical room, the rotten support beam, and the growing list of issues. Sure, Minto, keep telling yourself that.
But what truly takes this experience from frustrating to unbearable is how Minto has handled it. Instead of owning up to their mistakes, they’ve gone out of their way to shift the blame onto us, the homeowners. Their dismissive attitude, lack of accountability, and customer service seemingly designed to deflect rather than assist have left us feeling powerless, angry, and betrayed.
Minto’s negligence and disregard for their customers are appalling. Buying a home from them has been an endless source of stress, anxiety, and frustration. The emotional toll of dealing with their incompetence and indifference is overwhelming.
If you’re considering Minto for your new home, I urge you to reconsider. Their promises of quality and reliability are empty, and their customer service is designed to deflect rather than assist. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Save yourself the headache, the stress, and the regret—choose someone else.
Based on our experience, I cannot stress this enough: do not buy a home from Minto.

Bought in Brookline Phase 1 in 2024 (closing 2024). Sales team: we had great service and response with Duncan @ the Huntmar sales office. He is knowledgable and kind - important when making a large purchase with a heartless corporation. Final product has flaws that Minto does not consider a defect: drywall has not been done well and seams are visible to the naked eye throughout the main floor. See photo attached. Also NO EAVESTROUGHS. This feels totally unreasonable for the price of the home + our GST/HST Rebate. Construction staff is nice and knowledgable, but feel they could offer a bit more with regards to quality of construction. Overall happy with our home, minus the drywall seams 😭

Recommend shopping around with other builders.

Minto building company deals with the worst subcontractor companies ever. I hope the Minto owner sees my review because I will show he/she the many many pictures and emails I sent to the high-level management. I need to ask you, Minto owner, do you have a censorship for customer complaints or NOT?

Can you please contact me? I am waiting for your response.

While the home purchase and possession went about as smoothly as could be expected during COVID, issues arising with the home after less than 3 years of ownership warrant a 1-star review. Improper installation of a dryer vent resulted in water entering our home via the roof, a defect that was not apparent until now, when it started seeping through drywall and onto a bedroom carpet—conveniently happening past the Tarion warranty, and resulting in thousands of dollars of damage that we are now responsible to fix. An email to Minto’s warranty team got a response of “that’s not our problem and we’re not doing anything”. Basically, the lack of less than $20 of caulking by the builder in 2021 will now cost us upwards of $6000.

Buyer beware, as you won’t be given a tour of your roof or attic during the final walk-through. If you are already locked in to buying from Minto, pay an independent inspector to go over the house and check all the parts you can’t easily access yourself.

Based on this experience I will never purchase a new Minto home again…which may seem like an idle threat, but given my spouse and I move every 2-4 years for work we buy and sell many more houses than your average couple. Oh well.

Frustrating Experience with Minto

I am compelled to express my deep dissatisfaction with the home-building process provided by Minto. The repeated delays in closing at Brookline Kanata have not only caused immense stress but have also highlighted a lack of timely communication and proactive efforts on their part.

Throughout this experience, the builder has failed to provide updates in a timely manner, leaving me in the dark about the status of my new home. The reactive approach taken by Minto has added unnecessary frustration, as issues were addressed only after they became critical, rather than being proactively managed. This has caused both monetary and mental health loss.

Furthermore, the lack of initiative to go above and beyond in ensuring a smooth post-sales experience is disheartening. A sense of urgency and dedication to customer satisfaction seems to be sorely lacking, leaving me questioning the commitment of Minto to delivering a quality product and service.

This ongoing ordeal has not only affected my peace of mind but has also eroded my confidence in the professionalism and competence of Minto. I strongly urge potential homebuyers to thoroughly reconsider before engaging in any business with this builder, as my experience has been far from the smooth and stress-free process one would expect when investing in a new home.
