I bought a home from Mattamy one year ago, and the kitchen cabinets are by far the worst I’ve seen — extremely poorly designed and disorganized.

The cabinet widths are inconsistent, and the cabinet above the fridge is much smaller than standard. Both sides underneath the top cabinets are left open, and they refused to fix it.

The upper cabinets were supposed to align with the duct above them, just like in other townhomes. I raised this multiple times with the design center and was assured it would be done properly — but it wasn’t. The cabinets don’t line up with the duct, making the entire kitchen look messy and unprofessional. They added a filler piece on top that even doesn’t the same shade of white as the rest of the cabinets, and has a visible seam in the middle instead of being a single, seamless piece.

They also added two awkward panels on either side of the over the range microwave which look strange and out of place — making the layout feel even more cluttered.

No one has taken responsibility for these issues. They’re quick to take your money but deliver poor-quality work with no accountability. Very disappointed.

We recently visited the design studio. At first, it was a really disappointing experience—Sarah, one of the employees, was very rude and unprofessional, which made us feel uncomfortable. Just when we thought the visit would be a total waste, another employee (I didn’t catch her name) came forward and completely changed the situation. She was warm, patient, and genuinely helpful, which we appreciated a lot.

Because of her, we left feeling at least somewhat positive, but the rude behavior at the beginning left a lasting bad impression. The studio should really address such unprofessional conduct, while also recognizing and valuing the staff who treat customers with respect.

purchased new house in Kanata in mid 2017. With so many defects since, last week's roof leak tops it off. You would not expect a 7 year old roof to have a 10" hole due to rot under the shingles. The underside of the shingles were even rotten. Water has been leaking under the shingles since installation due to poor shingling and flashing installation. Mattamy rep visited and agreed that it has been leaking for many years but Mattamy replied " you are on your own for repairs", for insulation, drywall and painting including permanent repairs to the roof.
The roof contractor that did the temporary due to inclimate weather, identified several other issues with the roof.

My response to Mattamy's cop-out answer:

This house is less than 8 years old and needs a new roof.
Mattamy refuses to accept responsibility for poor workmanship causing a water leak. Missing flashing allowed water to enter and damage the family room ceiling.
With the amount of roof rot, shingles decomposition of the actual underside of the shingles themselves the roof started leaking on day one. Mattamy is claiming that it started after the warranty period was over.
Permanent roof repair, replacing attic insulation, drywall repair and ceiling painting are now required and Mattamy is saying that I am responsible for. This was the third roof leak.
How can they argue when the flashing was improperly done and not at all.
We have had so many issues with this new house with water penetration, to replacing dining room window frame, patio door frame to back wall sheathing replaced because of more water penetration.
Really think twice before purchasing a Mattamy Home new or used. Have the roof inspected by a qualified roofing contractor before signing. It could mean saving thousands of dollars and headaches.

I wish I could give this builder zero stars. I purchased a new home from them a few years ago, and the experience has been a nightmare. I was promised the house would be fully completed and ready to move into by a specific date, but it wasn't. The house had numerous issues, and it took nearly two years for them to address all of them. I had to escalate the situation to the head office multiple times just to get any progress. The materials they used were subpar and cheap, and it was clear that little care went into the construction. They rushed the process, which led to countless problems down the line. I absolutely would not recommend this builder to anyone looking to have a new house built.

Terrible workmanship with no accountability for the work they have done. If you have any problems with them, good luck reaching a resolution.

They forcefully installed a defective bath tub which over time led to a huge leak in the ceiling. They initially refused to pursue the case stating our warranty was over. When confronted with substantial evidence from different technicians that identified Mattamy's poor workmanship as the source of the problem, they still deny responsibility and now suggest that work by a third party has been done and we cannot prove the tub is the cause of the damage.

Please take a look at the images yourself and ask if this is a company you want to be buying homes from. I definitely will never buy with them again. I recommend you consider almost any other home builder too - you will see Mattamy at the bottom of most review sites.

Worst experience ever. They installed the wrong kitchen faucet and we have had to wait over 2 years and it is still not resolved. The customer care coordinators do not respond in time and are so disorganised. They do not care about customers and there is no sense of ownership.

It also took us a year to get a broken front door fixed which took so much back and forth and they kept on asking for the same pictures. Also, they first told us that our kitchen island lights were not properly spaced and that they would compensate us but later, they told us that there was no issue.

We are extremely disappointed in this service as they are so disorganised that their own customer service team members keep asking for the same information over and over and do not deliver in the end. They do not care about customers. I would give them 0 stars if possible.

Horrible customer service on our design appointment. We were denied every single request we had made and were given the cold answer of “Sorry, we don’t offer that” then looking away like we weren’t in the middle of a conversation. She didn’t look one bit sorry to me.

The house was supposed to be customizable to an extent but we felt so much constraint throughout the way. Absolutely no flexibility whatsoever. Keep in mind that this house is over $1M.

They do not give you many material options and they do not allow you to supply your own material either. They even refuse to leave something unfinished for you to do it yourself later.

They have light fixtures in awkward locations forcing you to pay an upgrade fee to change them to locations that make sense. We paid a large amount of money to upgrade the kitchen to the chef’s kitchen but the light fixtures were kept in the locations of the old kitchen layout. In this case, the light fixtures are not over the island anymore forcing us to pay an upgrade feeX2 to move them to be over the island which is the only place that makes sense for the chef’s kitchen layout.

They also force you to get the hood fan from them and pay for it because it’s considered an upgrade. You literally can’t supply your own hood fan even if it’s exactly the same as one of the models they offer. Why? Make it make sense….

They force the HVAC size on you. Made us get the most expensive one.

It costs double the price to get the appliances through them. Make sure you supply the appliances yourself.

A ripoff of $500 if you have more than one colour in the kitchen.

They divide the house by areas and force you to get one material per the area they have specified. This is making us have hardwood floors go halfway through the mudroom area and the other half be tile. Some retarded designer decided that halfway through a hallway is a great cutting point.

Be aware of the hot water tank rental mentioned on the agreement of purchase. You’ll save money long term if you buy your own hot water tank once instead of rent forever.

Honestly, if the housing market wasn’t ridiculously competitive at the moment, we wouldn’t have even considered buying a house with Mattamy.

Overall, Mattamy needs to step-up their game. The lack of flexibility is unbearable and unacceptable. They treat their customers as numbers instead of attending to their individual/unique needs. This obvious ripoff business they’re doing is not going to get you far for too long.

I bought my home from an older couple (no kids) that never used the tub in the main bathroom. After the first use a day after moving in, the tub filled with water, ended up draining down the ceiling of the lower lever. Someone else has had the same issue as me I’ve seen in the comments. Long story short, the bathtub was installed and the pvc drains connected we’re not glued together which led to a leak from the torch volumes simply by emptying a filled tub. How could they do this?
