Winner of the 2006 Governor General's Award for Architecture...Florian Maurer is the antidote to the overbuilding and underwhelming status quo. His buildings are truly modern, in that they are beautiful and practical. And as I sit in my studio office (designed by Maurer), looking out into my garden and out onto beautiful Okanagan Lake, the building sits lightly. It acts and feels like it is every bit a part of the landscape as the trees, flowers, bushes, and birds which all interact with it so beautifully. And now, with the new energy of Austin Hawkins, this team of youth and experience will be exciting to watch.
