🏠 Calling for Accountability in Canada’s Housing Industry

Statement by Dani Ieso – Advocate for Justice & Equality in Canada

In my years of working in the homebuilding and construction industry in Ontario, I witnessed practices that left me deeply concerned for the safety and wellbeing of Canadian families.

From workers being pressured to “stay quiet” about defects, to job sites where safety gear was ignored, to families moving into homes already in need of major repairs — these are not isolated stories. They reflect a deeper problem in the housing sector: too often, quantity is prioritized over quality, and families are left paying the price.

I personally saw homes where dangerous conditions existed behind finished walls and floors. I met homeowners who invested their life savings into houses, only to discover serious8 issues after moving in. I observed how inspection processes sometimes fell short of protecting the public, leaving workers and buyers at risk.

These are not just “workplace problems.” This is about public safety, fairness, and dignity. Every Canadian family — regardless of income level — deserves a home built with integrity, transparency, and respect.

That’s why I am calling for:

Stronger government oversight of the housing and construction industry.

Transparent and accountable inspection systems, with no room for secrecy or shortcuts.

Fair standards so that all homes, from affordable units to luxury builds, meet the same level of safety and quality.

This is not about one company, one project, or one person. This is about Canada’s future. Housing is not just a product to be sold — it is the foundation of our lives, our families, and our communities.

I will continue to advocate for homeowners, workers, and all Canadians, to ensure that our housing system protects people — not just profits.

I can’t begin to describe what a awful experience we have had with these builders
so unprofessional and rude don’t care about their work or finishing of the houses at all and houses made with such cheap materials
regarding warranty and repairs post closing, forget it they never show up when they’re supposed to and drag it on for so long
you take the day of and wait and their trades don’t come
and forgot about contacting their rude warranty manager barely hear back from her she ignores all you’re complains and concerns
and tells you they will do somthing and then charges her mind
such a struggle to get anything done
it’s no surprise people backed out of their home sales on their new site in cambridge such a waste of a builder all complains go unanswered no one at all to help I could go on and on but run away if you can very sad. going on second year and still haven’t cleaned the paint and dust of the windows and patio doors which they said they will do
