We partnered up with Steenhof Building Services Group to assist us in completing structural designs for our projects approx. 3 years ago. Every major project our firm has worked on, has been collaborated on with Steenhof.

They have been an asset to our team, and the projects we work on together. Their team of EITs and structural engineers are extremely knowledgeable and responsive.

Their process is collaborative and flexible. To us, this means that they understand the vision and aesthetic we are trying to achieve for our clients and they work hard to help us reach that goal.

Contacted this group looking for a structural engineer to help us with a project that was well underway. When we first contacted them they were pretty responsive and eager to help. They sent us a quote (even before a site visit) after an initial conversation with my husband.

They wanted us to send a deposit before any work started but I wanted to have another meeting beforehand so I could make sure they understood our needs and I could build confidence in the fact that they would be able to handle our work.

Since this was a project we were eager to start we just wanted confirmation that they knew what we were looking for and potentially do a site visit so we could talk through the challenges in our project.

After sending a bunch of follow up emails, and voicemails they just went dark. At one point my husband even had a quick chat with the engineer assigned to our project and we asked if now was a good time to talk and he said “no, not really.. I’m quite busy. Can you call back tomorrow?” and so we did and no response. The admin told us he wasn’t in the office and she didn’t know when he’d be back.

I mean. if you didn’t want the work they could have just let us know even with a quick email as opposed to stringing us along.

Really poor communication and unprofessional.

On another note… we ended up going with deKoning Engineers and they have been fantastic! so if anyone is looking for structural engineers up in the Muskoka area. I’d highly recommend. Nick DeKoning and his team are amazing to work with!
