First off I wouldn’t even give them 1 ⭐️ however in order to review I was compelled to do so.
I live in a neighbourhood that is undergoing renewal. Worst company to have been chosen to do the work.
Unable to park in garage due to the alley being redone - ok no problem.
The first 2 weeks that I have had to park on the street they did not do any work whatsoever. We are now currently 2 weeks past completion date and at no time did this company work weekends and there really has not been any weather delays.

After speaking with several neighbours, and after multiple-conversations, this company has proven to be incompetent to accomplish the task. They screwed up by starting an alley and then abandoning it as they were supposed to be a few streets over. Last update was that the company refuses to pave and or pour concrete until all the alleys are ready. So in essence we are being highly inconvenienced due to the inept ability to manage resources and project properly.

I am about to leave the province for over a week and I am forced to leave my vehicle on the street in hopes that it does not get tagged and towed for not moving 2 feet every 2-3 days - as per municipal regulations.

So I do not recommend and I urge anyone to run the other way if ever given the opportunity to do business with Standard General Inc. I would also like to add that their website and msg claims they are open till 4:30 however that is not the case. No one there ever after 4 pm.

Company doesn’t give anybody notices when they are doing work. They lay huge mounds of gravel where we park with no notice and there are no signs saying “no parking”. Instead of letting people know that they are doing what they are doing, they just dump gravel and hope your car doesn’t get smashed

As per the other review, I live down the Alley. And notice for work was given for July 17th. The notice was left on the porch at 8:37am July 17th ... Great notice... Had to leave work and come home and move vehicles. Completion was Aug 17th depending on weather delays.... Welp it's sept 9th and no end in sight. But I'll fill in the timeline.. and theft. Below.

Next day July 18th, no work started, just barricades,... 5 days later... No work started...July 27th, my truck on my back parking pad was stolen after they started work... Interesting timing.... Called the city and was told they could not help with getting EPS in touch with company as I find it suspicious that my truck gets stolen. Three days into them starting work...

Fast forward to Aug 23rd alley still ripped up.. employee from company confirmed they don't have eta due to shortage of ashvault... Great... What a waste of time and money. Meanwhile I have my summer car sitting in garage , cannot use my garage or driveway...

Aug 30th.. come home and the alley has been paved from one end to the other... BUT not the entrences or exits.. ok well long weekend no one's working.... Sept 3rd no employees, sept 4th no employees, sept 5th . Still nothing, Aug 6th... They were filling some of the gravel driveways but still no entrences/exits paved.

Sept 9th .. still nothing....

We are on day 57? Of 14 days ... This company has our tax dollars and is giving everyone the finger... Snow will fly in a week or two and they still don't have eta on the landscaping to be completed after the paving... The community is fed up and I can't wait for someone to bring forth a lawsuit for the pits left in alleyways.

Btw the project manager never returned calls or emails.

And the city of Edmonton cares even less... Alladin the project manager was removed from project and the lady taking over was straight up RUDE!

Doesn't matter .. they got paid and we still owe every month for taxes and shooty work.

Hit my house during neighborhood sidewalk reconstruction with a skidsteer while redoing my neighbourhoods sidewalks and roadways. they admitted fault with a foreman visiting my house and confirming that they must have did it, then never got back to me or resolved anything. Damaged siding and possibly more. Contacted multiple times and have just been ignored.

Contacted me again after this review, sent a contractor to inspect and never heard from them again.

I am very impressed with the finished product of Standard General in Westmount.
They regraded streets to improve the drainage; built curbs mainly with a curb machine but also formed curbs by hand where there was tree root interference.
They built sidewalks to accommodate tree roots by swerving around a tree and for future possible heaving by roots, introduced one foot wide groves in the sidewalk.
They kept the new sod well watered throughout the summer.
I requested that the new sidewalk across the boulevard be realigned to meet the new alignment of our front yard sidewalk to our front door. They made an excellent job of it, including the curves as per the original boulevard sidewalk.
I had my front yard regraded, and used the same sod supplier as Standard General and am very happy with it. The sod was thicker than others I have seen.
They worked long hours, 7:00 am until 7:00 pm and later.
Their crews worked fast, and took brakes when suitable.

This company... wow.

I get construction is lowest bid wins, but come on...

Behind schedule, denying seniors access to their homes, not following the pamphlet of plans they sent out to the residents, stating they would have access, wobbly sidewalks, weird looking curbs, blocking off enough streets to move the bus stop 7 blocks away for seniors and pregnant ladies to navigate thru construction.

This is also a "10 foremans, 3 workers" kind of company who lets their employees take lunch on our boulevard and leave their garbage. no wonder this company ( at time of writing) is rated 2.6 stars and currently digging up an already flattened part of our road because they "lost" a gas line.

Its 9am on Saturday July 4 and one of your teams is out on our street towing multiple vehicles. They had put the no parking signs out after 7 am this morning. Your employees were exceedingly rude and unprofessional. One even screamed at me he would hit my car with a front end loader but I can not tell you who as he refused to give me any way to identify him. If I could rate lower I would.

Westmount area looks like a war zone and has for weeks.
Wouldn’t it make (common) sense to start AND finish a few blocks rather than leaving huge potholes on every street?
Your trucks, equipment and some of your employees vehicles properly parked. Show some pride!
