Amy and her team do an excellent job of taking care of my rental units. They have a thorough getting process for new tenants and great communication procedures so you always know what is going on. I cannot say the same about other management companies that I have worked with in Lethbridge.

When they hire people charged with break and enter to complete inspections for them. It makes me wonder if Renter’s Choice has instructed the person to go into units without proper notice to the tenants. This company does a lot of questionable things so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have. Maybe this company needs to learn that just because door is unlocked doesn’t give the right to enter private property without permission (even my toddler knows this) and the fact your employees don’t know that it is a crime and does constitute break and entering makes me think management encourages this kind of behaviour. This person not only did it once but MULTIPLE TIMES!

To quote the employee “Did I force entry to the board room? No. Door was unlocked. I'm unlikely to be charged. Break in enter does not occur when doors are unlocked.”

I’m also curious as to how this person knew the door was actually unlocked unless they were actively trying to find a way to get into the building.

Just because a door is unlocked or open doesn’t automatically give someone the right to enter without permission. Would it be acceptable to walk into random patients rooms at the hospital because the door wasn’t locked or was open? NO! How about walk behind the nurses station and make themselves at home at the desk to edit pictures? NO! How about walk around a neighborhoods and try every door until to find an unlocked one and just walk in? NO!

This person not only entered a building is likely being demolished soon due to safety concerns but also exposed themselves to getting hurt or the event to liability if they got hurt. Clearly this person has no sense of the concept of safety. The employees at Renter’s Choice lack common sense and it’s evident by the fact that employees are getting caught doing stupid things. It’s only a matter of time before more employees are caught doing stuff they aren’t suppose to.

Update 1: So this employee lied about being arrested and charged then? That seems like a weird thing to lie about.

So if an employee is off the clock they can do anything they want and the company doesn't care? In my 20 years of working for multiple major companies, usually employers still expect their employees to be responsible when off the clock as they are still an ambassador for the company whether on or off the clock. I guess that must be the benefit of working for smaller companies, employees can do what they want regardless of how it looks on the company as long as they are off the clock.

Update 2: Renter's Choice has suddenly gone quiet, stay far away unless you people charged with crimes to have access to your home even with the "24 hours minimum" mentioned, that might be for an inspection but they still have access to your home at anytime. Even if they gave notice, I would not be comfortable with someone charged with break and entering into my home or around my children.

Had my annual 6 month review, Amy came by and helped me so much, with the little things I had to do, gave me instructions on the smoke detectors and the furnace filter. She was so very nice, and explained a lot of things and added why they were that way.

Reading through these ratings made me feel less singled out, especially since a lot of this has been going on for years. I applied for a place on the north side of town. I showed up for the viewing and they hadn't finished showing the other potential tenants, not a huge issue. The person doing the viewings and I chatted and everything seemed fine. He was honest and mentioned that renter choice had just got the listing so there wasnt much he knew about the house. He gave me the information, I applied and it took awhile to get back and forth with Kelsi. I did try ask at one point to do either text or email, but I think that got lost between all the emails and texts. My cousin was in the hospital and I let her know I was having issues getting their paperwork together. That must have been the middle of the week, by Monday I received the email saying we were denied because of rental history and income. I've rented from the same landlord since 2020 and let them know I was renting from family before that. I asked why and Kelsi denied explaining why I wasnt approved, I asked if there was anything I can do because I hadn't even finished the initial application between two jobs and going back and forth from the hospital since my cousin was in the hospital, but she said for legal reason they can't explain why we were denied. Felt fishy, why keep the reason they denied an application secret? Is it because it's an illegal reason? Either way, I tried to ask why and they kept telling me for legal reasons, they can't tell me. Then weeks later, I find the same rental being reposted again on fb. Unfortunate, because we were looking at moving in right away, but from these reviews it feels like we dodged a bullet. Wish them the best, the house was cute too. Between my cousin and I's incomes, we would have loved the place. But looking at these reviews maybe it was for the best.

Tried to contact someone for help on an application and got no answer from my texts, phone calls and email. I went to the office and the door was locked, 20 minutes later when I was able to walk in the girl who I talked to was ABSOLUTELY no help at all. I am very thankful for the lady that was there that told me to stay away from here! They have absolutely HORRIBLE customer service, I don’t know where it is acceptable to roll your eyes and shake your head at a customer/client. Would not recommend to anyone in need or try again due to the ignorance and lack of respect for people. If I knew the girls name who I talked to I would put it on here

I used to rent with them and I thought highly of them years ago and now they've become something else .I would never rent with them and nor do I recommend anyone renting with them. They want way too much personal information which should be illegal how do we trust all these people that carry our information especially when they're smaller company .that don't have security against cyber attacks so therefore your information is vulnerable be aware and don't promote this

Too short a character limit to list all the problems I had with Renter's Choice in the few months I was forced to rent from them.. A more accurate business name would be Capitalist Landlord's Choice. If you don't mind being treated like a commodity and paying a pile of extra fees on top of rent, maybe they're not so bad, I guess.. But, like I told their leasing agent, (who was incredibly immature btw,) 20 years renting in this province and I have never seen a lease agreement like the one Renter's Choice presented to me. Now I'm waiting 30 days instead of the legal 10 for my damage deposit while they figure out how much they can weasel away for themselves.
