After evaluating several companies to work with to design and build our custom retirement home my wife and I selected Harmony Homes because of their scalable process that covers everything from design to completion, their excellent communication skills and their desire to make regular site visits to see firsthand how things are progressing. In a nutshell, Harmony can oversee every task needed for a home building project. Your level of involvement is up to you.

After coming up with a concept design for our home, we worked with Harmony to modify the design as required to make the home perfect for us. Once construction started, Harmony made it easy to tweak things as the build progressed to make the end result even better. We were pleased that Harmony selects specific contractors and suppliers that they know will do an excellent job. Follow on contractors often complimented the work of previous contractors. This made a big difference in quality of the build.

Our build, similar to most, required dealing with the City for permits and inspections, a wide variety of Contractors, a Geo Survey Engineer but also with our Strata that has their own set of requirements. Harmony Project Manager Gary Carpendale dealt professionally and in a timely manner with everyone involved across the build process and kept us updated, typically daily.

The end result is that my wife and I now have a home that not only checks all of the boxes, and much more, on our retirement home wish list but exceeds our expectations and is also appreciated by family and friends. In a recent email from my wife to Gary, she summarized our feelings quite nicely - “Thank you again, for giving us such a lovely house. We wake up everyday with tremendous gratitude.”

If you’re thinking of hiring Harmony Homes, I’m urging you to reconsider. And if you’ve started a project with them, you would be best to cut your losses and run. They have been an absolute nightmare from start to finish and I wouldn’t wish them on anyone.

This was our second build, so we are not unfamiliar with the process. Most of their trades are completely inept to start with, but I don't believe that anyone from Harmony Homes was often on site or checking work, which encouraged even further laziness from their subcontractors. We are still trying to get them to deal with warranty issues despite having lived here now for 16 months.

Even worse than the shoddy trades they allow in is the attitude from Harmony Homes. We have been treated with complete disdain and indifference from the start. At one point the “project manager” screamed at me on the phone that of COURSE they wouldn’t leave the huge unfilled gap between the tub and floor (three guesses whether it was addressed before we got possession). The owner has never even bothered to see the house, despite knowing for 2 years that we are unhappy with almost every aspect of construction, so it’s clear the arrogance rolls down from the top management. We have been told so many lies that I couldn’t’ even begin to list them all. At one point they told us that their painters were awful and that they were hiring others, which was the reason we had to wait almost a year to have them come and fix very obvious mistakes. Lo and behold, when they did show up it was the same painters. I’ve heard enough personal tragedy excuses to fill a book, as to why they haven’t answered phones or emails or dealt with issues. So completely unprofessional.

Here are a few direct quotes from THEIR OWN trades: “If I was handed a new build in the condition of this house, my wife would be screaming from the rooftops”, from a contractor sent to handle warranty work. Another stated “I wouldn’t let Harmony Homes build me a doghouse”.

Save yourself the aggravation and wasted money and hire a company that provides actual customer service and stands behind their work, because Harmony Homes is not it.

Working with and Harmony Homes and Gary Carpendale (Manager of Special Projects) was an extremely positive experience. We found the entire team to be very knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with. Frankly, we loved working with Gary. He always went out of his way to provide information, solve a problem or just provide a constant flow of information. Interestingly, building a house is so much about communication. We always felt Gary and Harmony Homes were just a phone call or an email away. Always helpful, always knowledgeable and most importantly very willing to keep us involved and informed. Building a home is a very large undertaking and we can not stress how important it is to work with a company that provides you with a specific contact to help wade through the process. Gary was always the "guy" who walked us through every step of the way with professionalism, and thoughtful interaction. Truly, he and his team gave us some excellent advice that made the end result even better. We love out house and often comment on what a beautiful home Harmony Homes built for us. Everything is of such high quality and built to an excellent standard.

We would recommend Harmony Homes to anyone. It truly was a
very positive experience and we ended up with an excellent finished product. We love our home!

When we experienced the devastating loss of our home in Killiney Beach, to the White Rock Lake Wildfire on 16th August 2021, we immediately started searching for a reputable construction company to help with our rebuild. We researched building contractors, found Harmony Homes and started a discussion with Gary Carpendale, who made time to listen to our requirements, made time to meet with us, came out to our building site, made suggestions and in general took time to guide us through this emotionally traumatizing loss. We were faced with a few insurance challenges, but Harmony Homes were very patient with the whole process. Once the insurance was approved we moved forward with the rebuild of our home.
